The Red Desert

Eight million acres of rugged beauty are defined by vast expanses of sagebrush, towering buttes, and rainbow colored hoodoos. The Red Desert contains the largest body of active sand dunes in North America and is home to the largest pronghorn antelope herd in the lower 48 states, a desert elk herd, as well as wild horses. The land in southwestern Wyoming, is managed by the Bureau of Land Management, and is rich in natural resources such as oil, natural gas and coal.
