Bighorn Canyon National Recreation Area

Established by an act of Congress on October 15, 1966, following the construction of the Yellowtail Dam, Bighorn Canyon National Recreation Area boasts breath-taking scenery, countless varieties of wildlife, and abundant recreational opportunities, including boating, fishing, ice fishing, camping, and hiking.

Within the canyon you will find a high diversity of landscapes including: forest, mountains, upland prairie, deep canyons, broad valleys, high desert, lake and wetlands. The upstream reservoir offers 55 miles (89 kilometers) of deep-canyon navigation.
